Many of his poems were destroyed, but about 1400 ( most written in Han Tu ) survive. He is remembered as a great poet and a staunch defender of the poor and oppressed.
STREET
Cao Ba Quat is a short street in District 1. The drawing I made for this piece is the corner of Thi Each, showing the location of the old propaganda film studios. The drawing was made about a month before the studios were demolished. Plenty of mid range hotels are found on this street.
STREET NAME HISTORY
Cao Ba Quat, Duong (Q.1) – Before 1955: rue Capitaine-Fryatt, 1955-1975: duong Cao Ba Quat.
CAO BA QUAT COCKTAIL
Inspired by the orange and coconut sellers that sit on this street in the early morning before dawn. The cocktail is an obvious choice of an adapted Pina Colada style drink, replacing the pineapple juice with orange juice. Coconut vinegars used as the acid component instead of the classic lime.
INGREDIENTS
50ml White Rum, 75ml Fresh Orange Juice, 20ml Coconut Vinegar, 50ml Coconut water, 20ml Coconut syrup, 25ml Fresh Cream, 3-4 dash orange bitters. Garnish, strips of coconut flesh and orange zest.
METHOD
Build all ingredients in a ceramic coconut over crushed ice. Garnish with cut strips of coconut flesh and orange zest.
