FOR HANDS THAT DO DISHES…

…”For hands that do dishes are as soft as your face, use mild cream Fairy Liquid” That was the slogan for a washing up liquid brand in the 1970’s and 80’s in the Uk as I remember, and the advert was showing how soft the chemical was on the skin of some rough hands suggesting the result was clean dishes and hands as soft as a baby bum! …Well…fast forward 40 years to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and there are no babies bums in sight of the kitchens I’ve been sketching in recently, however there are some very skillful hands…

Over a few months last year, and is a continuing project into 2021, ( put on hold as with most things by the continued lockdown of the Covid pandemic) , the “Chefs Hands” project with the intention to capture with pen and ink drawings the various step by step phases in the preparation of signature dishes from various chefs around the city.

Just like this pandemic, this could take a while, however here’s a glance of the style and where I am right now…

ARTISTS IMAGINATION – “PLATING UP”

The idea is to eventually create a book, together with the recipe for each dish and a bio of each chef and the restaurant they represent. I am continuing the project alongside others throughout this year and aim to head out to the kitchens when the situation allows, once more and finish what I started over a year ago.
