PERSON 1862 – 1905
Chu Manh Trinh was a civil Mandarin that was both respected and criticized at the same time. His strengths were that he was noted for his talent in poetry, architectural design and restoration of temples , notably the stunning Huong Tich Tru Pagaoda. He wrote many beautiful poems about the Huong Son landscape and through these poems we can understand his love of nature. He died relatively young at the age of 44 in his native village of Phu Thi.
The modern-day street of Chu Mang Trinh in Saigon is characterized by the rather run down, yet picturesque shop house market that lines the center stretch of the street. The market specializes in delicacies and products from the North.
